Miriam Berger, 80, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 16, 2024 surrounded by family.
She was born December 3, 1943 in Perrysburg, Ohio to Russell and Frances (Mandell) Swartz.

She married Gary Berger on April 24, 1965 and they shared 47 years together until he passed on March 29, 2013. Miriam grew up on a farm. She was so successful selling eggs, she earned enough money to buy her first bike.

She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from The University of Toledo. Miriam started her career as a nurse and eventually progressed to a Director of Nursing; she then taught for many years before retiring. Her students often had the highest test scores in the San Francisco Bay Area where she and Gary lived for 30+ years before returning to Perrysburg.

She was a longtime member of St. John XXIII and enjoyed reading, sewing, and her dog companions (Peppy, Oliver, Alie and Tedi Tulip). She also traveled the world with her husband and a favorite country to visit was England because she loved the Queen.
She is survived by her children; April (Lance) Oman, Stephanie (Kurt) Souza and Christine (Gerrit) Van Rooyen; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter and siblings, Paul (Laurie) Swartz, Connie (Ervin) Zitlow and sister-in-law, Gwen Swartz.

Along with her husband, Gary, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ray Swartz.Friends and family will be received Friday, November 22, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-670-7199). A funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. John XXIII, 24250 N. Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg.

Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
